I just played through FFVII and FFIX and of course these are two of the best games of all time. I have not played any FF games since X and I was wondering if the new ones are worth purchasing? Assuming they stay somewhat true to the FF formula.

it depends on your preferences.
I hear XI is great, I played it but not for long, to play it you need a PS2 fat, BC PS3, Xbox 360 or PC.
XII and XIII are opposite ends of the JRPG spectrum so it's up to your preferences.

Last good one was FFXI. FFXII was ok but not my cup of tea.

You haven't played any of them since X? Good, you are done with the series.

Wait, formula? They change quite a few of game mechanics almost every single game.

FFX and FFXII are great. Honestly, forget the haters and play through FXIII, its worth a play-thru.

Well, what I meant was moving from town to town across the world map doing the main quests and side quests (like the friendly monsters), optional bosses, things like that.

XII is hit or miss, some people like XIII and XIII-2 but not many.

A lot of the hate for XIII comes from the fact that it's linear but in most FF games there isn't much to do in the overworld anyways other than walking from story event to story event.
