PS3 (70.2 mil) finally outsell 360 (70 mil) as of 09/30/2012

Who cares about the total number of consoles?

What matters is overall profitability and viability for the company. The more money the company is making from their game division, the more they will be willing to invest into more games for consumers and in that area Sony has lost and failed this gen.

The PS3 and Sony have bled billions since launch while Microsoft is rolling in profits. This has allowed Microsoft to come in and take many franchises that were former playstation exclusives and offer them on their system with superior graphics to their PS3 counterparts.

Due to Sony being pressed for funds, the PS3 has ended up with:
- Inferior multiplats
- lack of compelling exclusives
- loss of former PS RPG dominance (360 is now the RPG console)
- Inferior online marketplace
- Inferior online experience in games
- Delay of DLC (sometimes not even getting it at all)

When you look at the fact that the PS1 and PS2 were around 100 million at this stage, this is truly pathetic for the PS3. Microsoft made a big improvement with the 360.

Sony better get it right with the PS4 or this may very well be their last system.

This. Sony had gone from 102.49 Million PS1 owners, to 153+ million PS2 owners, to now just 70+ million PS3 owners.

Meanwhile, Microsoft had went from 24 million Xbox owners, to now 70+ million 360 owners.

Who's the real winner here?

Indeed. We should just focus on enjoying a game regardless of system.

The console with the greater spec generally loses.

That would require a modicum of maturity, and many on this board and others desperately struggle to find it in themselves.

You'd think such a close run match would be inspiring a bunch of 'good game' remarks, but instead people are grasping at anything that gives them the right to declare victory.

Sony sold 70 million and 1
MS sold 70 million and 2

pwnd!!!!!!

Wow, who cares about numbers. I would not care if my least favorite console swept the competition and I would not care if my favorite went out of business. Why in the world devote yourself to a company that cares a little less than zero about you. Oh, your mother died? Did you buy our game? Oh, you lost your house? Well, did you buy our game? It makes zero sense to me. The entertainment industry is one that is full of vultures. I am not much of a sports follower myself, but at least that includes people that are also fans theirselves, so they do care about fellow fans. Who runs games and such? Suits looking at their bottom line.

I have a 360 and ps3. I love them both equally, yet claim loyalty to neither. I just like video games, regardless of who makes em.
