Which genre is better? JRPGs or WRPGs

#31TiaelPosted 11/30/2012 12:31:29 PM
No, it's a (J)RPG.
What aside from the open world makes it action/adventure?
And even then, DQVIII, FFXII.

It uses a similar system to an MMO, utilizing hot keys for abilities, with the aspect of aggro/enmity, but it's still an RPG.

I wouldn't call Xenoblade Chronicles a JRPG. Hell, I wouldn't even consider it an RPG, it's Action Adventure game.
.

Wait... whut?

How is Xenoblade not a RPG?

More people like waffles than WRPGS. I suspected as much.

DLC is a method of corporate profiteering. Will you buy into it?

That being said, I'm honestly surprised at the results so far.

I thought WRPGs would be kicking JRPGs behind (not that I care much, since I'm one of the few who enjoys both equally).

you make 10 polls, 10 out of 10 JRPG would win, EVEN in 360 board, it's been tried before

2 games on PS3: Tales of Graces F, Tales of Vesperia PS3
Future PS3 games: Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2

I think you can deduce which genre I like better.

WRPG stands for Waffle Role Playing Game.

The problem I have with JRPGZs is how for the most part, they are mislabeled. Almost all of them have absolutely NO roleplaying elements, but they get called RPGs because originally, back on the NES, the games were made with elements used in RPs, but very few of them because of system limitations. As consoles evolved, Japanese developers evolved the genre without adding any RP elements to the games, but focussed on other things like story and characters. While western developers actually tried to make video game RPGs closer to actual role playing games by adding elements that involve roll playing.

Which is better? hard to say, different genres. I love WRPGs, and lately they've definitely been stronger. But past generations, JRPGs were usually the stronger genre, with WRPGs being far and few between since consoles were limited and WRPGs need a stronger backing, so they stuck to PCs, where sales weren't as strong.

I'd say WRPG is the better genre, but there are more great JRPGs than great WRPGs because of the mass quantity of them .
