Which genre do you consider the game. I'm pretty sure the development team "from squaresoft" considers it a JRPG.

Its a JRPG just based on the fact you can see the game has Japanese culture not western.

The difference between the two genres is the culture not mechanics.

Just because a game has a turn based combat system doesn't make it a JRPG nor does just because a game have a massive open world make it a WRPG.

JRPG. It's from japan and J/WRPG is a regional designation, not a genre.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for it's story is like watching porn for it's story.

Role Playing. That's what makes an RPG an RPG.

It's based on where the game was developed, not how it plays. You people...

So, that makes Final Fantasy 9 a WRPG since it was made in Hawaii

Yep, you make perfect sense. *not*

anyhow, doesn't matter if more people vote D Souls as JRPG, since I'll always view them as WRPG. I'm smart enough to realize that where a game was made doesn't change the gameplay to reflect on a genre.

Neither.

It's an Action Adventure game. There's no such thing as an Action RPG, it's a misnomer for an Action Adventure game with RPG elements. It's not any different than saying CoD is an RPG just because you can level up, which is frankly ridiculous.

I won't argue that it's Japanese though.

Saying something has "Charm" is just a cute way of saying it's lighthearted and kiddy.

Kinda the reason 'Western' and 'Japanese' are part of the names. You people...

This. This this this.

I hate this damn kind of topic. This is really simple and people don't seem to get it.
