Why do people want to remake one the worst FF games?

"There hasn't ever been a villain in the history of video games to accomplish world domination on the scale that Kefka did, Kefka is by far the most bad ass villain of all time even despite the fact that his sprite / dialogue made him look like an idiot."

I actually think that makes it even more bad ass. It's not "Despite" that fact, as far as I'm concerned it's "Because" of that fact.

Saying something has "Charm" is just a cute way of saying it's lighthearted and kiddy.

I can agree with that. It's a very true statement.

It's not one of the worst. It's not the very best either.

FF6 is probably the best, but FF7 is likely the second best. FF4 is up there too, and FF10 is surely in the top 5.

Cloud is not the reason for this. Final Fantasy has NEVER had good or relatable main characters. None of the FF games have good main characters. If you disagree, name one. Tidus? Stupid. Squall? Emo. Yuna? Lame. Cecil? Cool appearance and nothing else. Zidane? Lame, but with a monkey tail. Vaan? Michael Jackson.

People that think FF7 is bad clearly don't take into account the standards of games when it was released, the massive variety in gameplay, the emotional impact of certain parts, the incredible music (I don't think there is a bad track in the game), and cool and diverse party. Many FF games have some of these elements, but few had them all.

Now if we got a remade FF6 with modern graphics and voice acting, forget about it.

99.9% of people will always say that the first Final Fantasy they played was the best one in the series. Since most of the fans of the series didn't jump on the bandwagon till FF7..... see where I'm going with this?

I also find it funny how many people in this thread are saying Seph is better then Kefka LOL.

Big bad Sephiroth burnt down a village, wow.... Kefka single handedly destroying the world and ruling the remains with an iron fist can't even begin to compete with a guy torching a village. *massive sarcasm*

There hasn't ever been a villain in the history of video games to accomplish world domination on the scale that Kefka did, Kefka is by far the most bad ass villain of all time even despite the fact that his sprite / dialogue made him look like an idiot.

So he destroyed a world? Psh. That's too direct. At least Goldfinger had an actual good original idea.

The Honey Bee Brothel music was awful.

Locke was a pretty good character. That was an ensemble cast, but he was one of the primary characters. I thought Yuna was a really good character too.

Polite conversation should never include Politics, Religion or what constitutes an RPG.
Playing a game for it's story is like watching porn for it's story.

I never understand why people beg for a FF VII remake. Why not FF VI or IX?

What is this weird obsession with FF VII? Cloud had basically no personality.

Kefka > seph all day every day

I'm not saying FF VII is the worst final fantasy game. its better than FF 1-3, FF VIII and FF XIII, but there are still far better options. heck, i'd even love to see a tactics remake before it

Because the "best" Final Fantasy game is entirely a subjective opinion. Why is this concept so hard to grasp?

Final Fantasy VII is my favorite Final Fantasy game, but I would never call it the "best" because I would set myself up to be insulting to someone who feels equally strong about another FF game. Gamers are a diverse group, and that diversity is becaming less and less respected, especially by some young gamers.

It definitely is not the worst FF game. It's one of my two favorite FF games, along with FF9.

The main problem with people wanting a remake of FF7 is that they think a game like that is going to reverse Square's misfortunes and make everyone feel better about being a gamer again. The thing is, Square would be releasing this remake in a market already populated with many remakes of favorite franchises. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that they would make an absolutely stellar remake of FF7 that incorporates a lot of innovations the FF series has had over the years. I just have concerns that Square won't have enough time to make such a remake (their backlog of games to be made is growing ever larger) and that gamers by then will just think of it as "just another remake" and not give it the accolades it will deserve. Who knows, maybe Square will indeed release the remake at the very end of this console generation; at least I hope so.

I honestly don't think it will be released. I think for how much money they would spend on it, I don't think enough people would buy the remake.

See "main characters". Not supporting characters or party members, main characters.

Meaning the primary protagonists who drive the story, not whichever character was best or you liked the most.

Balthier is good, but he isn't the main character. Neither is Barret or Aeris or Cyan or Celes or Vivi or Auron or Rydia or Zell or whoever. They are supporting characters and party members. Some of them are very important, but they aren't the main characters (even if we'd sometimes prefer them to be in some cases).

As for the silly track or two in FF7, they may not be amazing on their own but they fit into the context of the scenes/areas they were used in. I defy you to argue that the game didn't have fitting and memorable music that is still good to listen to today. Again, I'm not one of these people that argues that FF7 is the greatest game of all time, but I think it's ridiculous to say it wasn't great. Overrated? Very likely. Bad? No way in hell.
