Bad management
Lack of talent
Lack of good leadership
Franchise deemed no long profitable
Lack of Budgets
Creator of franchise gone from company

Take your pick

Simple... none of those games sell very well. It's more affordable to retain the property and get past residuals than it is to sink millions into development to get little in return. Business is to make money... not break even or lose it.

So depressing

What pisses me off is Square-Enix put that cease and desist on that one small group of fans that were making that non for profit Chrono Break game, which didn't even look all that bad, but then they themselves do nothing with the series. If it were me, that type of dedication would have inspired me to get the company to figure out somehow to revitalize the IP since it means people are still interested. But instead? They give us FF XIII-2 and XIII-3.
