Isn't "Playstation" technically one word? Shouldn't the abbr. be "P3" not "PS3"?

Because it's really just a made up word consisting of two words smashed together so PS is used.

I'm not seeing how a blurb on Wikipedia that does not even directly quote anyone is proof that Sony intended for Playstation to be two separate words. And even if they did at some early point in development, they've always officially spelled it as Playstation after release.

Well i still dunno why Playstaion was called PSX
it's just too weird.

It was the code name. Like the Gamecube was called Dolphin. But for whatever reason the name PSX just really stuck into peoples minds. It was how it was abbreviated through out the mid to late 90's until the PS2 came into light.

So what? That's an early prototype. The "Play Station" on it doesn't mean anything more than the "Super Famicom" does. Are you going to try and argue that it would be correct to call the original PX a "Super Famicom"?

...

...Yes.

And the P2 is actually a Hyper Famicom, while the P3 is an Ultra Famicom.

Here, are you happy now?

In case you aren't getting it, the "P" and the "S" are both capitalized.

Plus, you'd have to say that Sony themselves are doing it wrong. Which is absolutely ridiculous.
