The best JRPG this gen?

not that crap again... either you define what you mean with JRPG beforehand or be quiet about this subject.

#1 JRPG = game made by japanese devs
OR
#2 JRPG = typical rpg-elements/style/characters (found in many rpgs from japan)

same for WRPG. and in that context, Soul games are #1 JRPGs with a #2 WRPG influence. or let's settle on A-RPG.

going by this logic i would choose legend of zelda, 3d dot hero, yakuza 3 and way of the samurai 3 because they fit these 2 criteria

Final Fantasy 13
- Fast, engaging combat system (cancels, interrupts, real time class changing)
- Great storyline and characters
- Absolutely stunning environments.
- One of the best soundtracks this gen alongside Nier.
- Well programmed. Runs like a dream without an install.

You can really tell that they learned from all the things they screwed up in FF12.

mash x and occasionally L1? O_o
and the characters were bland for the most part. Vanille is the only redeeming one.
rest is somewhat true. it's an enjoyable game, but a bad RPG and a terrible FF. it's not a RPG in a greater sense anyway as you're CAPPED by story progress and can't put stats where you want. you have a rail and have to follow that rail.

You can make any game boring if you want to by ignoring everything they have to offer.
Don't stealth in MGS, just hold R1 to beat Mass Effect, beat DMC abusing stinger and the default moveset.

Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.

Thats if you want to consider it a current gen game. It was made in 2011, but it's a psp game.

I have some mixed feelings on Xenoblade. It had some pretty environments and a ton of lost potential. The battle system was neat but they never seriously pushed the player. The story started strong but completely fell apart at the end. Alvis was particularly bad.

Nier for me.

Five years later and it is still Lost Odyssey, followed by Tales of Graces F.

Sadly, and I do not know why, maybe lack of turn based JRPGs has to do with it, nothing has been able to top Lost Odyssey.

(D Souls are WRPGs, so they do not count for JRPGs)
