I dislike bad games, and most JRPGs this gen on the PS3 have been bad. Thus, I dislike most JRPGs this gen. However, I don't dislike Japanese games since my favorite franchises (Metal Gear, Pokemon) are Japanese. So, yeah...

There's a blind one sided hate on bad games here though

Unless you thought Rogue Warrior and Conflict Denied Ops were good games

What do you mean by blind one sided hate? I'm probably one of the few people on here who likes FFXIII and XIII-2, even though those games are clearly much worse than your traditional FF (imo). I'm not so big on niche games (never was) but I did enjoy Valkyria Chronicles.

What makes you think I was singling you out? You need to read my sentence again

I kind of always thought the weird Japanese fanservice games were in appropriate. Even as a kid, seeing the kind of weird semi-porn stuff were in games, I was like "Wow, this is really shameful."

Part of it is a cultural thing, I guess, what's acceptable in japan can be considered perverted insanity in the Western world. But outside the internet, I've never heard anyone say people should go to jail for playing those kind of games. You might be exaggerating a bit.

Except it's not acceptable in Japan. They are called Otaku for a reason. It' be like saying everyone in the U.S. that are adults love comic books and child beauty pageants. What you're looking at is niche which represents a very small community driven hobby. It doesn't even represent the majority of gaming there in general or Anime in general.
If the average Japanese game sells over 100K in Japan it's considered a success. Some games that sell 30K are considered a success there.
If a game sells that kinda number in the West its a failure. A game usually needs to break a million to be considered a success in the West.
Kingdoms of Amalur broke 1 million and the company still went under.
Japan has 127 Million people.
U.S. has 311 Million people.
Despite having half the population; that's still a considerably large population crammed in that small of a country in comparison to the U.S.

You do the math.

I don't understand your argument. Yes, Otaku are not the majority. And?

My point wasn't that everyone in Japan is perverted, it was that the TC was exaggerating a bit in saying that people call you a rapist and say you should go to prison.

The argument is you saying 'it's acceptable in Japan'. No.....it's not.

It looks like you're trying really hard on this thread to defend Japan, like we're all insulting your favorite country or something.

For one, I don't know why you care. For two, yes, it is more acceptable in Japan than it is in the U.S. You think they're gonna sell that Vita stroking game the TC linked in any store Stateside? Hell no, that's creepy and there would be protests out the butt. But in Japan, it's a least a bit more acceptable.

I wasn't talking in terms of that. I was asking what you mean by blind one sided hate. Because quite frankly, most JRPGs this gen DO suck, so the hate some people have over them is understandable. As for Japanese games in general, they too have started lacking (Resident Evil for example), so the justification for dislike is still there.

Some of you are real hypocrites....
You cry foul any time a very small group of people dislike some Japanese game, but don't care that the vast majority of Japanese gamers hate Western games.

A few people here hates a Japanese game and you get offended, but the Japanese culture being hateful of Western made games is somehow okay to you.

First of all, what makes you think anyone here cares what the "Japanese culture" (whatever that generalized statement means) thinks of Western games? FYI, Square-Enix publishes CoD in Japan and it sells, so apparently the Japanese like some Western games just as people do here. They also like variety.

The reason people are complaining about this gen is the lack of variety and the lack of quality, oversaturation of one genre, casualization and the enforcement of greedy publishing tactics.

You assume the people supporting or defending the games that so many people are flocking to the bandwagon on this board to hate only like said games which is anything but true.
You really need to open your eyes.
My personal "GOTY" happens to be a game made in the West (Sleeping Dogs) for example. The three most anticipated games for me for next year are Beyond, The Last of Us and the JoJo fighting game. Two of those three are Western made. Shocking?

And it's not "a few people'. Don't be blind. There's an abundance of hate topics made every day.

People complain about JRPGs being childish yet no one knocks on South Park RPG or Costume Quest RPG?
How can Ni N Kuni be anything but a child protagonist when you learn what the story is about (his lost mother). How the hell would a bad ass adult protaginist in that story even make any sense??

Yet you talk to anyone on the streets of Japan and you'll get real animosity for Western made games.

So there is a big double-standard here.

You're going to find Xenophobes and Patriotism wherever you go. Certain places in Japan you can't even go INTO unless you're Japanese and a male. It is what it is. But guess what? What do the hell do I care I don't live there so how does that effect me so why should I care.

Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Ace Combat, Armored Core, Ninja Gaiden etc.

If japanese games were once good and had a more international appeal before, they sure as hell have become pretty ****** and 200 times more insular and creepy in these last couple years.

Just look at the list of upcoming japanese games, they are all obscure anime-based games on handhelds and anime sex games on PC, absolutly nothing on consoles aside from Fist of the North Star and some two or three obscure jp onry visual novels here and there.

No it's not. I'm using simple law of averages and logic here.

There's 127 million people in Japan. If video games and Anime were as accepted there and popular as you think, the sales would show it. They don't. Not even close.
If anything, the sales in the U.S. for games here show people in the U.S. have far more interest in games than the Japanese do.

For one, I don't know why you care. For two, yes, it is more acceptable in Japan than it is in the U.S. You think they're gonna sell that Vita stroking game the TC linked in any store Stateside? Learn what a niche is. There's a reason there are made for Japanese only XBox 360 games even if they don't break 5 to 10K in sales per game (which is ****). The fanbase is abysmally small but severely buyer loyal.

For me, it's not so much "hate towards the games" as "hate towards the people who play them". Even then it's just the minority of J-Gamers that think everything that comes out of the east is a f****** masterpiece, all western games suck and love telling everyone about it.
A good game is a good game no matter where it was made or what in-game mechanics it uses. You play what you like, others play what they like. The point it crosses the line is when you begin telling others that what they enjoy is somehow inferior to what you like simply based on where it was made.
I love games, all games. However, seeing the number of people on this board that spout out the same "anything eastern >>> anything western" s***, constantly, has turned me into one of those people that often repeats the opposite just for the sake of it. I'm not proud of it all.

For some unknown reason the gaming community, in general, has lost sight of the purpose of video games and lost that greater sense of camaraderie that all gamers, regardless of taste, used to possess. We've devolved into this horrible pile of hate, figuratively foaming at the mouth, just because someone, somewhere, doesn't like something we do.
Gamers need to wise up and realize that we're all the same. We all share in the same hobby. Who the f*** cares if somebody doesn't enjoy your favorite game? Why do we feel the need to put them down and belittle them because of it?
It's f****** stupid.
We're all in this together you dumb-s****. Stop being so narrow-minded and accept eachother for what we are. F***...
