Hi everyone,

Doesn't it strike you as odd that out of the top 10 most read IGN reviews, all of them are rehashes of an existing serie with only one (Dishonored) being a new IP ?

The top ten is as follow :
1- Halo 4
2- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
3- Dishonored
4- Borderlands 2
5- Mass Effect 3
6- Assassin's Creed 3
7- Max Payne 3
8- Far Cry 3
9- Resident Evil 6
10- Diablo 3

Exactly this.

And exactly why we need new consoles.

New consoles are when developers take risks and bring us new and exciting games.

For the PS3 we got Uncharted and Infamous.

For the 360 we got Gears of War and Bioshock(sure it later came to the PS3, but the point remains).

Even with this, most - 6 out of 10 - of the IPs already existed before the ps3 / xbox 360 era (Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3, Resident Evil 6, Diablo 3). Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed are milked IPs too.
Big studios don't like to take risks I guess ?

CoD was a PC game before the 360.

Halo was a new and original IP for the original Xbox when FPS still werent common at all on consoles.

You cant say Rockstar milks the Max Payne series...

Far Cry was also a PC game before the 360.

Resident Evil is Resident Evil.

The last Diablo game was over 10 years ago...

The point is, aside from RE, Max Payne and Diablo, the rest of these games got their start from companies taking risks on new consoles.
