How will PSN/SEN compete with Xbox Live next generation?

#1HENTAIDOJIPosted 12/9/2012 7:07:53 AM
So Xbox Live went from 2 million members in November 2005 to around 50 Million today (over half of which on the Gold tarriff)

Microsoft increased the price from $50 to $60, Sony has offered theirs for mostly free but has still not curbed it enough to enjoy a 2,500% increase in membership this gen.

What can Sony do next gen to be more competitive?

I'm pretty sure there are more PSN accounts than Xbox Live accounts.

What?
Xbox 2,500% growth.
Sony = x people divided by 0 = infinity
Infinity > 2500%

Sony is awesome dude

Yep. At the time of the big outage last year, someone leaked the numbers. There were 77m PSN accounts.

Some of those are obviously duplicates, but there's definitely enough real ones to push the total above 50m.

They'll offer a subscription service that actually adds incentive unlike Microsoft, and they won't lock out a service like Netflix with a 2nd required payment to access it.

Oh, wait... I forgot they already do these things and have more members.

Let me change my response to: easily.

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.

Charge fee, put ads everywhere, make people pay for peer 2 peer, shove more ads down their throat, threat customers like crap, be greedy etc. etc.

I'm sure Sony will then be truly successful.

I don't think it will, it was supposed to this gen an it didn't.

PSN+ was like the compensation DLC from Red Dead Redemption. Instead of fixing the game, they give away free stuff to apologize. Sony couldn't create a decent service so just chucked free games at people.

Why on Earth would Sony feel compelled to compete with a more expensive, inferior, ad-riddled service?
