If Nintendo made Final Fantasy why is it on PS3?

I remember growing up Final Fantasy was Nintendo exlusive and then it was PS1 and PS2 exclusive.

Now it's on PS3 and Xbox and all known handhelds but no wii.

Final Fantasy is like the whore of JRPGS

I'm pretty sure Square jumped ship to Sony after VI because with the size restrictions on N64 cartridges. The size limit on an N64 cartridge was 64 mb iirc and of course CD-roms held 700 and VII was held on 3 discs, so yeah, that's a lot of cartridges.

The real reason was Square spent millions on a CG render farm and thanks to the sour deal between Sony/Philips and Nintendo over the CD attachment for the SNES, Nintendo was unable to get a CD drive for the N64. (blacklisted basically due to the sour deals)

As a result Square had to leave Nintendo or the render farm would have been a giant waste of money.

It's on the Wii. Crystal Chronicles was created for tech that can't run the main games.

Square has never considered itself as an "exclusive" developer. If a game was only on one platform, it was because of financial reasons.

The original Final Fantasy had a remastered version on the MSX, improved in every way. Final Fantasy V was planned for a release on both Super Famicom and Windows PC but company mismanagement resulted in that being scrapped- and said scrapping took down plans for a PC version of FFVI as well.

So, no, Square never considered itself as a Nintendo-only company at any point in time. Not in the NES era, not in the Super NES era, and certainly not beyond that.
