Lol. If you want a new JRPG, that genre is still alive and kicking. CoD's existence is completely unrelated.

Japanese RPGs are not alive and kicking. Almost all the new ones suck, and I can count all the good ones on one hand.

Also, there is only 1 good turn based JRPG this gen and that is Lost Odyssey. All the others are weird over the top anime loli pedo crap and have weird "innovative" battle systems, and then you have sucky bare bones garbage like Modern Final Fantasy XIII.

I not only want JRPGs, but I want good ones and I want turn based ones back as well.

I've only been able to start being able to afford consoles/games in 2010, so I've missed out on all the previous gens. That said, I do enjoy some PS3 Japanese titles (mainly Tales of), but I still feel like my PS2 has a lot more to offer, and regularly play it when I see a game that interests me.

Wrath of the White Witch?

It's a weird "innovative" turn based style.

While you can control all the characters, the battle system does not wait and you have to switch off in real time.

I will play it though. Renting or buying, maybe sale or Best Buy credit, I dunno.

Even if Ninokuni is great, it's still only 1 great JRPG in a gen full of sucky JRPGs, and not many good-great ones at all. It doesn't make up for the neglect of the JRPG genre this gen at all.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a game officially deemed great if it gets a positive feed from a majority of fans + good game review scores?

i'm pretty sure there are a lot of games that fall into the catagory of great rpg's this gen though. they might not be what you and a handful of others liked, but the games are still good. a company wouldn't survive if it was just you and few others who bought like 5 games from them per console generation. You instead should be happy other people are buying the other games in such quantity so the company you do like will make an rpg down the line you'll be happy to talk about for years to come.

So...you give credit to Japanese games even though there are also perfectly good Western games out there?

Like what?

I really miss the great western games like Baldur's Gate and Champions of Norrath. Anything superb like those this gen?

And sure, you have outliers, like Deus Ex is fantastic and the Fallout series are somewhat enjoyable. Half-Life and Metroid Prime are a few more examples of great western games.

I can't give you examples because I know that you don't like what I like and will simply argue against them to somehow validate your point of Japaense games being better than Western games even though both have good and bad games.

Well, sure, but the fact of the matter is that most good games have come from Japan. They're more creative and artistic and their games are not nearly as bland as western games.

Of all the good games ever made, probably 80% of all the good video games came from Japan, along with 20% of the good games coming from the US and western countries.

the problem has to do with quality too, not just quantity. i'm more concerned with quality, which is severely lacking, but quantity is also severely lacking
