C/D: The last great JRPG to come out was Final Fantasy X.

(Not counting the Souls games as JRPG's, since they're not.)

C: It's been a total wasteland for this genre since FFX. 12 was a bust; 13 and its iterations have been an even bigger joke. Every other JRPG series has degenerated into low-budget, kitschy crap.

D. Nope, Tales of Symphonia, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Last Story to name a few.

My sides.

Pokemon is still good, despite what the haters (who usually haven't played it in years) say, Xenoblade, and a handful of other decent to good RPG's have come out.

dragon quest 8 was IMO the last great JRPG I played but then again I really haven't played many this gen. I also don't think ff10 holds a candle to any of the PS1 FF's or SNES ff's. It was the beginning of the end for FF IMO. Started the linear no world map trend, the voice acting was nails on a chalkboard bad, the battle system wasn't anything particularity interesting and the story never really grabbed me. It had it's moments and at the time I played the s*** out of it but having played it again in recent years, it's really not that great.

Lots of better JRPG's on the PS2 then ff10: Suikoden 3/5, DQ8, persona 3/4, star ocean 3, digital devil saga 1/2, and SMT: nocturne. That's just a few I can name that were at least as good as FF10 (actually I'd rather play any of those then FF10). They may not all have the production values of FF10 but they are all great titles. This is all my opinion of course but really sounds like you actively decided to just quit looking after 10 or perhaps you just got sick of JRPG's? Tastes change and perhaps that genre just stopped floating your boat. Doesn't mean it's the genres fault. It is a genre that doesn't really change much and you can get sick of it, that's why I don't play them any more. I'm sure there has been good games to come out for this gen to but I just haven't played them or care to because I just burned out on JRPG's after nearly 10 years of playing them. I'm not about to make the grand statement of "JRPG's suck now" though, I personally stopped enjoying them. The genre itself isn't the problem, I am.

Lost Odyssey
Xenoblade
Last Story

That's just off the top of my head. Hmmm, maybe you meant on a Sony system? Because I just realized all three of these are other console exclusives...lol. Maybe you need to broaden your horizons TC and stop being an exclusive Sony fanboy.

There are other good ones on PS2, but I can't remember if they were released before or after X. E.g. Persona 3, TotA, etc.

People really saying that FFX wasn't good?

Um...

Have you played your own game? Final Fantasy X is the epitome of the downfall of Final Fantasy. Over the top hideous character design to the point of weeping hilarity. Most of people actually wear thongs around in public. Most of the areas in the game are also long ass hallways. All of these areas are literally 1-way hallways:

-Zanarkand (Beginning)
-Baaj Ruins
-Besaid
-Miihen Highroad
-Djose Highroad
-Moonflow
-Thunder Plains
-Via Purifico
-Via Purifico (Underwater)
-Bevelle Highbridge
-Mount Gagazet (First part)
-Zanarkand Ruins
-Most of Sin

Did I mention that the game offers a very unneeded mini-map? Not only that but the game features some of the most annoying idiots ever. You have Wakka who cares more about an underwater polo sport than SAVING HUMANITY. Tidus is a whiny little brat that thinks the world revolves around him, and Yuna is straight up a doormat. She says sorry for causing trouble when kidnapper's grab her; this is all happening when Tidus and friends aren't guarding her when they SHOULD. This game is also riddled with obvious foreshadowing that make the game very cliche and boring.

Final Fantasy X SUCKS

FFX has got to be the worst FF that I have the misfortune of playing. FFXII was an improvement in literally every possible way.

Can anyone please find a wrpg that plays similar to demon's souls and dark souls? Just because those games have a fantasy setting doesn't mean they're automatically classified as a wrpg.

Uhh pretty much any dungeon crawler or sandbox rpg feels similar Dark Souls. It's infinitely more comparable to any western RPG than it would ever be to something like Final Fantasy, Tales of, SMT, DQ, Pokemon, etc etc.

The only type of Japanese games Souls feels similar to is stuff like Metroid and Castlevania, which are obviously not rpgs at all.

List please? i've never played any dungeon crawler or sandbox game that has similar combat to dark souls.

I agree, WTF is up with this guy?

Because Wizardy, The Dark Spire and Etrian Odyssey play SOOOO much like Dark Souls.

This fully deserves a "What is this I don't even..."
