What typical JRPG doesn't have these moments?
The lore, plot progression, interaction and overall concepts were sound, however.
...repetitive quests.
Only if you did one after the other after the other...
I should know, I did the same thing and got tired of it really quick because I was swamped in them without actually accomplishing anything plot wise.
They're meant to be side distractions, not something you get caught up in unless, of course, you truly enjoy do the same few things time and again.
