Xenoblade has no amazing story and pretty bland, stereotype characters for the most part. so it would be more a 7,6,5 where nier is a 6,20,20.
the last two simply outshine the gameplay, which is certainly fun and enjoyable but nothing too special either.
XC is overall a great game, but it's just "well polished" - nothing to remember in a few years. except for dat mustache :3

They should have rolled with Dunban as the main hero, and not that little "friendship will save everything, hero complex"-cliche brat and make more use of the interesting setting, in the end, most of the time it looks like any generic idyllic world.

Xenoblade>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nier

Nier has a pretty good story, but it's gameplay and graphical aesthetics suck ass.
It's kinda overrated from the JRPG community here.

Yeah I found nier tedious and a bit on the fugly side. I think its kinda like Fragile Dreams and Kiler7 if you can get over the meh gameplay theres a good story. Story is really important in an RPG but if you're finding the gameplay boring it sucks you out of the story. With Nier unlike Killer7 and Fragile Dreams, the gameplay was too annoying and dull for me to stick with the story.

I enjoyed Nier, but I feel Xenoblade is a better game.
Both excellent in their own ways however.

It's Reyn time!

Heya Dragoon.

Honestly, I played Nier immediately following XC, and I still felt it looked better than XC. I think you remember my opinion on XC's visuals though. I definitely think that XC's visuals are highly overated. Nier's graphics aren't great, but they aren't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

Nier's gameplay is the definition of mediocre. There's nothing inherently bad or good about it.

XC's gameplay had highs and lows. Sometimes it was a ton of fun, sometimes the battles get really tedious though.

They are both about on the same level. I think I personally preferred XC, but I enjoyed both immensely.

i can't stand the xenoblade graphics.... they focused on the wrong graphics...

you can deal with better characters worse environment but they went with better environment and horrible characters... i'm fine with the character designs but the models themselves look horrid...
and they have models cutting into models.... like that park scene in the beginning of the game,....... the two characters were holding hands but instead, they were cutting through each other.....

Yeah, but those are again IMO just the textures that bring Xenoblade's graphics kinda down.
Not that it matters in the long run, since I don't play JRPGs for the graphics.

It was probably stupid of me to mention graphics in this discussion.

I still think the art-style was fantastic for XBC, despite how the visuals appeared.
But I also love the art-style for Skyward Sword.

Anyways, this was Monolith Soft with the Wii, and they sure as hell squeezed the system for everything, just imagine a Wii U game from them?

Well the graphics kinda go with what they focused on storywise, most of the characters are forgotten about after the halfway point, those that remain aren't developed all that well. The world itself on the other hand is very beautiful and fleshed out. The developers have said they left the story and characters to the last minute, they wanted to focus more on the world. In a recent interview they said they wanted to become the japanese version of bethesda(who also have the world before characters philosophy).

The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Lost Odyssey are better rpgs for story/characters.

Yeah, I agree. Neither of the game's graphics really affected my experience at all. It was just really annoying hearing people praise them, and I would disagree, and then they would call me a troll.

That's just what I noted when I was playing the game. I probably wouldn't have given Nier's graphics any thought whatsoever if I hadn't played it right after XC, when everyone was telling me how much worse it looked than XC.

I just don't agree with that. Nier looks better IMO, maybe not as exotic, pretty and striking, but better.

I don't even get why this is discussed. Xenoblade is better in every way. And I loved Nier.

On a pure technical level, I agree with that.
I guess what I was arguing the whole time were aesthetics, especially those of the environments in Xenoblade.
