Xenoblade Chronicles NEEDED to be a PS3 game and NOT go to the Wii!!!

I'm also going to say again that I thought the artistic direction for XC was a poor choice for the system and the game design, and comments that the game would have looked much better in HD were totally justified. Something akin to Valkria Chronicles direction, but with a more colorful pallette, would have looked much better in SD and been more practical as far as limited system resources were concerned.

i can't stand the xenoblade graphics.... they focused on the wrong graphics...

you can deal with better characters worse environment but they went with better environment and horrible characters... i'm fine with the character designs but the models themselves look horrid...
and they have models cutting into models.... like that park scene in the beginning of the game,....... the two characters were holding hands but instead, they were cutting through each other.....

Well the graphics kinda go with what they focused on storywise, most of the characters are forgotten about after the halfway point, those that remain aren't developed all that well. The world itself on the other hand is very beautiful and fleshed out. The developers have said they left the story and characters to the last minute, they wanted to focus more on the world. In a recent interview they said they wanted to become the japanese version of bethesda(who also have the world before characters philosophy).

The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Lost Odyssey are better rpgs for story/characters.

my problem is the typical bottom tier graphics game will still have better graphics than xenoblade... that's what initially pushed me away from the game.. i was interested in it before the game released...

you stare at your main characters more than npcs... they should have better graphics over the npc characters (unless they are story characters)... and then, the world's graphics should fall as last priority though they should still meet a certain standard...

i'm pretty sure there's other games that are like xenoblade but have far better graphics on wii... even if it is still considered mediocre/average graphics across all game media...

they only needed to tidy up the graphics.... that's not asking for much...and properly prioritizing the graphics as well.

sure, you can focus on the story before graphics... but if you don't prioritize within graphics themselves, things won't be right...

you can get away with cheating on world graphics more than you can with character graphics... especially player character graphics..

I just don't agree with that. Nier looks better IMO, maybe not as exotic, pretty and striking, but better.

On a pure technical level, I agree with that.
I guess what I was arguing the whole time were aesthetics, especially those of the environments in Xenoblade.

True, but XC aesthetics would have been extremely inappropriate for Nier's setting and tone. A drab world fit the somber plot. Unless they were going for juxtaposition, which would be ridiculously hard to pull off.

And I really had no issues on the character graphics, but to each their own.
I thought they were fine, given the scope of the game itself and the system it's on.

Yes, but I do agree to an extent with Synfullyvanilla that they should've gone with Cell-shaded graphics, especially for the characters.

DQ8 is the best example, and that's on the PS2.

The main reason Xenoblade gets the hype it does, is because of the size and beauty of its world. That and the music are my favourite parts of the game. Sacrificing that aspect for characters with more polygons would ruin the game to a certain extent. The characters personalities are pretty forgettable, sacrificing the thing that made the game memorable probably would not have been a good decision. If you want good character animation, with detailed character models, The Last Story is the game for you. If you want a game with epic scale and beautiful environments Xenoblade is the obvious choice.

Nintendo catered to both markets, as not everyone wants the same thing.

I disagree, the graphics are fine.

Cell-shading would have looked completely different and I'm not sure I'd get that same awe I did in Eryth Sea or other such areas utilizing that style.

Nah there are too many games that go the cel shaded route, its good to have an rpg that isn't overly cartoony.

I love The Last Story too, and yeah it's for different reasons.

It would be stupid to limit myself to only one "type" of JRPG.
