Xenoblade Chronicles NEEDED to be a PS3 game and NOT go to the Wii!!!

The main reason Xenoblade gets the hype it does, is because of the size and beauty of its world. That and the music are my favourite parts of the game. Sacrificing that aspect for characters with more polygons would ruin the game to a certain extent. The characters personalities are pretty forgettable, sacrificing the thing that made the game memorable probably would not have been a good decision. If you want good character animation, with detailed character models, The Last Story is the game for you. If you want a game with epic scale and beautiful environments Xenoblade is the obvious choice.

Nintendo catered to both markets, as not everyone wants the same thing.

they didn't necessarily need more polygons... maybe you are misinterpreting what i am saying.

they only needed to tidy up the graphics for the characters... some of the polygons were too long or inappropriately shaped, etc... they just needed to tidy that up..

and the thing with the park scene. what happened to collision detection?!.... if anything, just make the models close together but not touching... that is more than enough.. if you have things going through each other, i start to wonder if i'm playing a game from the early days of 3d gaming....there's ways to be tidy without needing high res models...

I actually didn't have too much of a problem with the characters either. It was more high-detail environmental stuff like cliff faces, tree bark and stamped grass. Even the skin of the Bionis and Mechonis in the opening scene is really bad. Stuff like that.

There were bits that looked fantastic, like Makna Falls. Oddly enough, the parts of the game I thought looked the most consistently well done were on Mechonis, which a lot of people hated because it looked bland. Well, other than Fallen Arm, because that just looked breathtaking.

Playing it right now and it is THE BEST JRPG of the year, it's actually my GOTY and one of the best JRPGs I played in a long time.

This game NEEDED to have been made for PS3 in all HD beauty and glory to be played with a Dualshock 3.

Why in the world was this made for the wii again?
I mean seriously more people would have bought if it was released for the console that all JRPG fans own this gen which is the PS3 duh.

Or at least a multiplatform release would have been good too.

LOL, you're right that most JRPG fans own PS3 this gen, but it's funny that most of the best JRPG exclusives weren't on PS3 (unless you like Disgaea grindfests, hallow Mugen Souls, and the expired Tales series). Sony is making a new market, and it isn't JRPGs (Great ones, at least). They've lost DQ, Tales isn't what it used to be, they lost MH (not RPG, I know, but a lot of the fans are the same; not to mention even multiplats suck way more than exclusive counterparts: Rune Factory Frontier >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rune Factory Oceans). I think Xenoblade was on the right system, because Sony seems to be abandoning great JPRGs for crappy ones and FPS games. Why do you think Nintendo bought up Monolith in the first place? Cause Sony didn't give a crap.

I liked Mechonis areas, Sword Valley, Fallen Arm as you said is breathtaking, Agniratha, Mechonis Core, Central Factory.
Not upset some people may not like the graphics as they were, just saying I really didn't have a problem with them.

And I really had no issues on the character graphics, but to each their own.
I thought they were fine, given the scope of the game itself and the system it's on.

Yes, but I do agree to an extent with Synfullyvanilla that they should've gone with Cell-shaded graphics, especially for the characters.

DQ8 is the best example, and that's on the PS2.

Nah there are too many games that go the cel shaded route, its good to have an rpg that isn't overly cartoony.

You can do cell shaded and not have it look cartooney though. Cartoonish visuals have more to do with proportions than color pallette. Check out Binding of Issac. Very dull color pallette, but extremely cartoony.

When you do high-detail though, you have to go full bore, or it's going to look inconsistent at best. IMO, consistency is the most important part of artistic direction after practicality(and they go hand-in-hand). If the visuals aren't consistent, that'll drop your suspension of disbelief immediately.

its not fair because you then have to buy a garbage system to play a few amazing games.\.

Yeah it's not fair. I had to buy a PS3 just to play tales games and MGS4. Wish I didn't have to do that.

Tales isn't what it used to be

Compared to what prior Tales games? And what game are you thinking about (Vesperia, Graces f, Xillia?)?

I don't know about you, but I loved Graces f and Vesperia, moreso than Eternia and some others.
And looking forward to Xillia, and yes I'm aware of the content complaints.

I agree, looks like a great game, but I don't want to buy a Wii just for one game.

I love this argument... you can buy a used wii for like $78. Talk about breaking the bank... that's only a little more than the game you actually want to play. Also, if you get an old one you also technically get a GameCube which would run you $20-30. Further down the line you'll probably be able to nab a Wii for a measly $50... or maybe even more.

But no, you'll be like my brother-in-law who told me not to buy a GameCube because "there are no good games." Seriously, at the price you can nab one for you can surely find SOMETHING to play - and I did when I played and loved the hell out of Metroid Prime a decade after it's release.

But seriously, if you were paying launch prices I would agree with you, but we're talking about a console at the end of it's life cycle. It couldn't be more affordable.
