Is it worth repairing a YLOD PS3?

My phat PS3 died on me 6 months ago. I spoke to my local Sony and they told me that they could replace it for a fee ($185 to be exact. I know, CRAZY)

Anyway there's a guy who is willing to fix it for $82. He said he'll give me a 1-month guarantee (if it breaks down during this time, he'll fix it again for free)

The only reason I wanna repair it is cause of my save files on it. So tell me, is it worth getting it repaired just for that? And how long do repaired PS3s last for (on average) before YLOD'ing again?

I thought if you remove the HDD, you automatically lose everything on it?

If you remove the HDD and put it in another PS3 it automatically formats.

And I lose everything on it yeah?

So that's not really an option

Your best bet, if you are worried about the saves and whatnot on the PS3, is to get it repaired AND to buy a new one.

Repair the old one, then do a complete file transfer to the new one (check the instruction manual on how to do this).

Then you can do whatever you want with the old one.
