I just noticed that Metal Gear Solid 3 HD was for sale on the store. I have $15 on my account, after picking up The Simpsons arcade game, and I was wondering if I'd be completely lost starting with 3. I may just wait till Tuesday, see what else I can pick up with that cash. I hear Skullgirls and Tokyo Jungle will be for sale after all.

Anything else good for sale, speaking of? Is Papo & Yo good?

I've been told it's best to go through MGS in order of release.

Youd probably be okay as its the first of the prequels and the stories pretty self contained.
However youd get more out of it having played 1 and 2 as some references will go way over your head.

Id agree that release order is best.
But just MGS 3 is better than no MGS at all ;)

You wouldn't be lost because MGS3 is literally the first game in the series, story wise.

However...having not played 1 or 2 previously, many story and character references/nods (and MGS games have many of them) will go over TC's head and he won't enjoy the game as much as he could have.

Play them in order of release.

People say that about every series that contains prequels.

You could, but it will spoil things from MGS1 and MGS2 for you. The story in those games won't be as good as they would have been if you played them in order or release.
