But I hardly consider it a game. When you spend most of the time watching these prolonged overdrawn cutscenes instead of controlling your character then something is clearly wrong. Is that what games have become? But even when you are in control, the gameplay itself is not all that great to speak of. Far better stealth games have come along over the years that the Metal Gear formula is rather stale and outdated.
Been awhile since I played it, so my memory of the game is pretty vague, but one thing that really ruined the experience for me was being able to access that shop at any time(black dude iirc). Imo, that destroyed any possible challenge the game had. Come to a tough area.....Why battle through it when I can just buy a bunch of guns or ammo necessary to clear that particular level? I don't recall the earlier games being like that at all. You came into an area with what the game gave you and you figured it out either by pure stealth or what weapons and ammo the game gave you. If you were truly screwed, you loaded an earlier save and played better. You didnt just go to a shop with buku bucks and BUY your way to victory.
I also didnt care for the bosses and the end sequence. The story was the weakest of the four games, as well(IMO). A convoluted mess. Sure, you can argue that for all of the games, but the other entries all had really cool moments and scenes. 4 was just a boring rambling mess.
IMO, 3 was the masterpiece of the series. Followed by 1, then 2, then 4 WAY below. Very disappointing game in a series I love.
