So when i have the PS3 connected to it and then into my TV, my TV's Picture will cut in and out for seconds at a time. This makes it impossible to play anything. When the Component cables are put directly into the TV, i do not have this problem. Can anyone make sense of this?

So i tried changing the PS3 resolution down to 720p instead of 1080i, still the same problem.
Then i put it down to 480p. That worked. But why will it work in 480p and not 720 or 1080i?

i think its because you're using component cables? have you tried connecting a hdmi instead?
if there isnt a hdmi port (meaning there is only component ports) try using a hdmi>component pass through

that said i dont know much about stand alone recorders

Says in the box it's a hardware problem that vibration causes the cables become loose and cut out, happened to me too.

oh wow... even these standalone recorders have that protection...

guess the only way you'll be able to record HD footage is using the passthrough method
basically what you want to do is to connect the hdmi cable to the back of the ps3 and on the other side plug in a HDMI> DVI convertor cable....

then after that get the end of the DVI cable and plug it into another converter called dvi> hdmi converter box
from there plug in another hdmi cable from the dvi>hdmi coverter box into the recorder

the final image will look something like this

ps3 (hdmi)----> (hdmi to dvi converter)----> end of the dvi converter----> dvi to hdmi converter box ------> hdmi cable into recorder

thats the only way i know how to record hd footage with a ps3 using a standalone recorder...
