Honest question: Why is it that the PS3 exclusives better than Xbox exclusives?

As far as pure graphical quality goes Gears 3 > Uncharted 3. Yeah, Uncharted 3 does have a better art style and more use of color, but that doesn't magically make the graphics better.

Anyhow, it's not that the best of the PS3 > best of the Xbox 360. The problem here is that the Xbox 360 hardly even gets any retail exclusives these days. Microsoft doesn't give a f***, aside from having just a few big blockbusters.

Also, don't even bother mentioning XBLA titles as exclusives. In no way can they be compared to retail exclusives.

Why can't XBLA and PSN games be compared to full retail? They are full games, regardless of their price. Some of those games are every bit as great as retail games.

Because they're still entirely different types of games. XBLA games are usually shorter, simpler and have much lower production values, on top of usually being entirely different. Until XBLA starts having games that can compare to retail games such as Gears of War, Halo, Forza, Fable, Uncharted, Killzone, Dark Souls, Resident Evil 6, Final Fantasy XIII, etc, there's really no comparison.

In no way can XBLA games act as a substitute for retail exclusives, no matter how great they are.

You don't see how a $5 game like Joyride Turbo can be compared to LBP Kart?

Dunno how much content it has, but I highly doubt it's nearly as much as LBP Kart.

Its a matter of personal preference; but i will retort with the same responses you got in the beginning. It was about the variety.

Resistance
Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
Killzone
Disgaea
Heavy Rain
Jak and Daxter
Sly Cooper
Infamous
Ni No Kuni wrath of the white witch

sony keeps plugging money away trying to come up with new ips. Some are hits, some are misses (heavenly sword, Lair, Haze) but at least they are trying.

MS on the other hand seems content to pay obscene amounts of money for exclusive content of IPs that have been milked to death but have a proven track record.

Yes they can, since the point of playing a video game is to have fun with it. What the hell does production values have to do with a game being great or not? If that was the case, games like pac-man, donkey kong, super mario brothers, legend of zelda, etc. would have long since been forgotten.

Some of the franchises you quoted also started off from humble origins. Resident evil on playstation and final fantasy on nintendo didn't need huge ass budgets to be great games.

Mainly because of the following: Timed and Kinect exclusives. Most retail and XBLA "exclusive" titles end up getting a PC (or even PS3) release, and the ones that don't are usually Kinect games nowadays. Not to mention that most Japanese developers simply stopped caring.

Production value is only part of the reason. Fact is, XBLA (and similar PSN games) can't compare to retail releases in many ways. Hell, many of them can't even compare to older retail releases. Call me when they release something of the caliber of FF7 or hell, even FF6, or the original Resident Evil, MediEvil, Silent Hill, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, etc.

Yeah, for some genres like Shmups and puzzle games the XBLA kind of games do a decent job in being a substitute. For most other genres, they're not even close in catching up to even a few generations ago.

it's really the systems that are different.., Regardless of what fanboys might tell you the capabilities are pretty much the same, I guess sony just works harder at their games? More likely you just have a particular taste for what "good graphics" are. I think Odin Sphere looks better than Halo 4 and it's a ps2 game.

People like to say this but in the end of the day its a matter of taste. Also the cliche here on these boards is that xbox only has Halo and Gears and then ignore every summer of arcade title and other xbox exclusive that has come out over the years. From EDF, Tenchu z, Fable, Horizon, Crackdown etc.

Those games are average at best.

Halo and Gears get mentioned because they're on par with the PS3's AAA offerings.
