Rishah0078 posted...Vexu192 posted...Rishah0078 posted...I don't like CoD personally because it's virtually the same (not entirely, but for the most part) and it's released every year. Those two things together bother me. Nothing says "milking a series" quite like that, but if other people want to buy it every year, that's their business. Plus, if I made the game and it sold like that, I would do the same thing. Who wouldn't? It's guaranteed money. The objectives and gameplay in some modes are different (although there is obviously the staple TDM and such), the gameplay ranges greatly between Halo, Cod, and Battlefield. This is just FPS. Platformer characters have varying skills and abilities that cause the controls and gameplay to vary. Additional in game objectives also vary. Sports titles regularly have updates in the physics engines, although the objectives and gameplay do remain primarily the same. RPG's have a wide range of combat systems that have different control schemes and gameplay. The objective could be argued to be different as RPG's tend to not be based around online play. The argument would be that the story gives you different objectives, although you could argue, and I would not oppose, that the objective is to advance the story. Adventure games can put different focuses, from discovering new location and items to defeating some all-powerful end-boss, to the front of the objectives. The controls can vary greatly by requiring you to use gear to do certain things to simple walking and jumping to get around. These variations create very different gameplay experiences. Should I continue? Give another genre.

At their core each genres games are just as "samey". You only choose to say this about certain ones because you want to. If the controls work why change them? The objective for platformers has always been the same. Traverse the level and complete the goal. (Just as an example) --- Everything's shiny, Cap'n. Not to fret.
CammyApple posted... Rishah0078 posted...CammyApple posted...Rishah0078 posted...There are differences, yes, but the game mechanics and principles remain primarily the same. The controls do not change, the objectives do not change, the gameplay, in essence, changes very little. Okay, I'll toss the objective argument. You could easily argue that away since it is primarily semantics. The fact remains, games within genres vary greatly. Games within series generally do not, I wouldn't argue that, but if you don't think games vary greatly within a genre, you haven't played a whole lot of games. But I think you missed the point of my posts (or rather, I strayed from the point). I hold that the games in this series do not change much from year to year despite what TC says, and that in itself is fine, but it bothers me personally that they release it every year despite the lack of change. I also said that if other people enjoy the games, that's fine, and if I were in charge of the franchis, I would do the same thing because it's free money. The argument I started with you about genres is irrelevant to this discussion on a specific franchise.
CammyApple posted... PoorCountry posted...People have said a bazillion times why they don't like Call of Duty. You can tell how devoid of passion the game is while you play it -- they didn't make anything new. They're made to rip everybody off, and the fact that it's working is morally offensive and a nuisance to people with creative integrity. I knew that by answering the topic title's question, why I "foam at the mouth", I'd be harassed with the body question of why I think it's bad, by somebody saying exactly what you did. My post was to explain why it's treated with hostility. It also explains why I might find playing it a bad experience, though, which is the most that can be said for why something is a bad game besides technical issues like, "low framerate", "low-poly graphics", "glitchy", etc. It doesn't have any of those problems because the people making it are filthy rich off reselling it to everybody ten times over.
Rishah0078 posted... Except the series has changed vastly. Even year to year. --- Everything's shiny, Cap'n. Not to fret.
CammyApple posted... Rishah0078 posted... Vastly? Please tell me about how the game has changed "vastly." The campaign is different, but plays the same for the most part. The online modes have some new options which play primarily the same. The maps are different, but you still play them the same. I will listen to what you have to say, but I want to hear about something that changes the way you play the game. |
