PS4 - I am not Upgrading to 4K TV

The only thing that sucks about using a SDTV with a PS3 is that it's almost impossible to read the words in some games because it looks so damn small.

You think that's the only thing?

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.

Take it with a pinch of salt. The only thing likely 'guaranteed' to be 4K on the PS4 (and maybe even PS3!) is going to be the OS menu. Remember that although 1080p is the standard this gen, how many games utilize that? Even fewer whilst maintaining 60FPS @ 1080p. Next gen will most likely feature 1080p at standard and 4K for the rare exceptions.

The other thing is that BluRay films at 4K are not likely to grab a foothold over current BluRay. BluRay never finished of DVD so 4K BR films are going to be a very small market compared to standard BR and DVD.

So unlike current high definitions it probably won't be as necessary as the jump from SD to HD. Heck, most current HD TV broadcasts are only at 720p or 1080i and even then I only have 4 HD channels on my free-view.

In short, 4K isn't going to be useful until a good few years of yet. All my own assumptions of course. I accept I could be wrong on this.

I just bought a 51" 3D 1080p plasma for $800, 4K TVs are expected to cost several thousand (or more) for the same size not including 3D functionality. No video content supports it as of it. Sony will likely still use Blu-Ray in the PS4 which tops out at 1080p. This tech has a looooong way to go before it catches on.

No games run 1080P at 60fps. Not even PSN games. Games struggle to even run 720P at 30fps. In fact many games run at less than 720P (COD).

If it makes the OP feel any better I'm forced NOT to upgrade my TV. If I wish to avoid lag on my older consoles like the NES/SNES, I have no choice but to use an old fashioned CRT TV.

I intend to get a CECHA PS3 shortly and must connect it to my CRT-TV, but surely as long as use S-video it should work just fine, right? Remember I'm getting a CECHA rig so PS2/PS1 games will work on it also, so...

it could be worse, sony could force everyone to play all ps4 games in 3d and require a 4k tv, man would there be a uproar if that happened.
