FF7 and FF10 had the best combat systems.

X-2. Whatever you may say about the rest of the game, the battle system was top notch.

I sure love waiting 10 seconds for an attack to charge.

Then use a different attack. One that doesn't take 10 seconds to charge.

But yeah, X-2 has the best battle system by far. Then I'd say VII, then X. XIII is damn near the bottom of the barrel though. XII being the worst, unless you cheat and always have a max ATB gauge. Then it's actually quite fun.

How is 12 the worst? It's like the rest of the ATBs but better in every way.

It's boring as ****, and they added free movement that doesn't matter and just makes using the menus more cumbersome. That and the wait time between attacks is absurd for a game playing at being an action game.

Sure, almost every FF game has used the ATB system, but the little changes they make for each iteration make a huge difference.

what FF12 really lacked was proper attack range collision detection stuff.. it ran like an online game would which doesn't make sense considering it is not an online game...

Xenoblades did this properly...

You can change the battle speed or put it on active so that the other characters charge as you are selecting your actions.

Sei, Sin, exactly.

The only "problem" with XII is that, you weren't locked into one position in combat.

Thus, the "wait" seemed longer because you looked as tho you could attack freely.

Had XII gone with Xenoblades' style, nobody would be contesting it.

it's not that you weren't locked into one position but rather the distance did not matter as soon as the attack started charging.

if you start an attack from close range, then move away before the attack happens, it should not hit... but in ff12, that attack will hit.

Another inherent flaw with the basic MMO design, sadly.

well... with MMO's that style of code is acceptable because it actually is a way to avoid lag problems.... it's all about network programming.

however, with it being an offline game, then yeah. no excuse. you shouldn't be using this format of programming.

That's just blatantly untrue IIRC.
