I applaud Sony for getting the PS3 to second place and outselling the 360

It would have happened a lot sooner if so many people hadn't bought second or third 360s to replace out of warranty ones that broke.

Well sorry. I wont buy a third though unless they are $5 new.

Still doesn't look good for Sony since the 360 literally doesn't sell in Japan or in Asia in general. Even with the help of Japan/Asia the PS3 just slightly outsell the 360. This just proof that Microsoft has a way bigger market in NA and Europe. Sony really need to step up next gen.

Seems MS is only got that big marketshare in NA, Sony continues to really stay ahead in Europe, next gen they should focus on NA because thats where the marketshare is for MS.

Not to mention that PS consoles are sold in far more countries than the 360. There are still many third world countries where PS2 is still dominant.

How about from the CEO of Sony's mouth

http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/sony-ceo-kaz-hirai-ces-2013-interview-4k/

That's the only legitimate source you posted, and Kaz said nothing about the PS2 ending production worldwide. So as I've said five times already, Japan is the only place where it is confirmed by Sony that the PS2 has ended production.

That. People shouldn't really count Japan. Because Microsoft have been an embarrassing failure there.

LMAO, taking a random analyst's "forecasts" and treating it as the real thing, or are you seriously going to believe that the PS3 sold 7 million consoles in two months?

It's neither a random analyst nor a forecast, guessing someone didn't read it.

Xbox 360-

Likes to break down alot
Replacing said unit would be a expensive hobby due to breaking down alot
Discs are crap
Live is not free (PSN is free and more simplified)
No stupid haxors to hax the systemz (player-wise anyway, CC is still a problem for both).
Less annoying trolls to deal with on a daily basis.

with the vita and psp yes but how are they doing that with the ps3/ps2 when the ps2 is discontinued?

PS2 only discontinued in the last week or so, that doesn't cover last quarters sales. It also doesn't disclude future shipments, just future manufacturing.

Its possible across all regions combined yes. But remember multiple consoles count as well.

For another platform maybe.

We know:

PS3 sales are down YoY in the USA
PS3 sales are down YoY in Japan
PS3 sales are down YoY in the UK

We know the most Sony has ever shipped of PS3 in a single quarter is 6.5 million in 3 months.

This is suggesting it has shipped 7million in less than 2 months and approx. 9.7 million in 3 months

You could believe it's done that, or you could believe this report is just making it up, which would explain why :

* Sony brags about being the best selling console in Australia, but felt this wasn't worth mentioning
* This report pre-dates any official numbers from Microsoft and Sony
* They haven't sourced the figures
