Anyone gonna say it? Ok I will:

Who cares?

really?? That is a HUGE feat! Im the last person to care about sales numbers but that truley is remarkable feat, I think any experienced gamer can see what an accomplishment that is.

This part isnt directed at anyone specific but its really amusing seeing nonstop sales topics, console war topics, usuaul daily fighting aregarding this stuff and then an actual huge accomplishment)so close, inevitable) and its who cares about this stuff....scanning this place daily I figured most do...like alot...to the point I wonder how many have this wierd obssession to sales numbers cause there is nonstop topics regarding sales numbers all the freakng time....that is of course when it has to do with sony and something good it seems, that when you see these "who cares" comments...its really wierd more so cause this is the ps3 board...baffling lol

Sony is 3 for 3 as far as producing successful consoles, defined as selling over 100 million

Microsoft is 1 for 2 (Assuming 360 will also cross 100M like PS3)

Nintendo 1 for 5 (the worst record)

Any more question about the best brand in gaming?

And yet Nintendo did the more profit in real money with those consoles than Sony and Microsoft...

Is not about the numbers, is about the profit, the PS3 started to get profits like 3 years after launch, Wii and GameCube launched already with a profit....

No matter how much profit Nintendo made, PS2 still won.

Well, then, when the discussion comes up in another topic, go ahead and say that Nintendo won last gen and the gen before that.

Source?

Microsofts Aaron Greenberg, 360 ARSP.

Can you link me to the 12 GB PS3 on Gamestop of Amazon? Because last I checked that was a Europe specific

I'm talking global.

Nopes, only the slim was affordable and it was still more expensive than the 360 worldwide and the XBox360 Pro was $250 while the PS3 slim was $300.

That means the 360 hasn't been affordable since launch since they are still $400.

and the XBox360 Pro was $250 while the PS3 slim was $300.

Xbox 360 with a small HDD is still more expensive than a PS3 with a small HDD and same for a larger HDD or no HDD.

The 360 with a small HDD is still $300.

No - $600.

Cheapest at launch was $499

http://uk.gamespot.com/news/e3-06-ps3-launches-11-17-499-for-20gb-599-for-60gb-6149470

Only because the 360 was so much cheaper at launch.

There was a $100 difference at launch. There's now a $50 deficit in the PS3's favour and a $0 deficit since 2009.

The question we should ask ourselves is would the 360 have sold better with a $150 price drop? I think it would.

And depending on what bundle you're looking at, it's more than $100. And the PS3 still more expensive - it's $1000 in Brazil, remember. More than $250 in the US where it is the cheapest available worldwide.

PS3 is the cheapest HD console worldwide. That's a fact.

So? Finishing number 1 is finishing number 1.

According to Sony the PS3 is still last/3rd place.

Running out of argument?

I think it's more a case of a couple of games aren't going to turn around an unprecedented drop in sales.

Their last price cut was in 2011.

360s was in 2008. Its outsold the PS3 for the last 2 years.

The gaming division has been been profitable for some time now - check the financials if you don't believe me.

Ok

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/347056/playstation-division-loses-pound18-billion-as-annual-ps3-sales-decline/

The manufacturing costs of both the Vita and the PS3 has gone down since they last had a price cut, no to mention that with the Vita, they are probably making a profit on each system sold.

True for the competition moreso give the 5 year gap. It still doesn't change the fact that Sony has already promised a Vita price drop for 2013 and has a new console to sort out. For a 1.8 billion loss in a single quarter you're suggesting a $100-200 drop (lets face it, you'd need a $100 on each platform to make a difference) so the PS3 can go from 9x million to 100 million is ...well, probably why Sony may lose again.

If they're too tight they need to raise $10 on a system, I seldom think they're primed for another $100 price drop.

I'd wager all that's left is the 12GB launch in US.

You have 0 evidence that backs your statement.

NPD = Lowest sales since 2008
Media create = Lowest sales since 2008
UK = Sales down yoy
PS3 shipments lowest since 2009

You don't need to be a weatherman to tell that its raining.

You don't even know what the emerging markets are.

Clearly not enough to keep the PS2 alive. Since PS3 is more costly to make, why should it last longer?

So, no numbers?

Amazon uk has the 12GB PS3 being 23% more expensive than te 4GB Xbox360.

That means the 360 hasn't been affordable since launch since they are still $400.

Yeah, no. For $300 you can get a 250GB Xbox360 + Skyrim + Forza 4.

Xbox 360 with a small HDD is still more expensive than a PS3 with a small HDD and same for a larger HDD or no HDD.

The 360 with a small HDD is still $300.

Where the hell are you getting that from?

Compared to the cheapest launch Xbox360 of $299. That's a price difference of $200.

The race is not over.

It's not only a couple of games. Only an idiot doesn't realise that many countries are still waiting for the PS3 to become affordable to purchase it.

360s was in 2008. Its outsold the PS3 for the last 2 years.

More PS3s has been sold per year on average than the 360. And MS offers price cuts over the holiday periods and has the cheapest HD console worldwide.

Ok

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/347056/playstation-division-loses-pound18-billion-as-annual-ps3-sales-decline/

Next time, try to read what you post - Sony's Consumer Products and Services division - which houses its PlayStation, TV, video, digital imaging, PC and mobile businesses

They posted a positive operating income in FY2010 and FY2011. The profit during FY2011 was 29.3 Billion Yen. Try again.

Source for NPD?
Source for media create?
PS3 sold was 13M in 2009 so lower than that doesn't mean much but source for that anyway?

Not enough to keep the PS2 alive? The PS2 sold 50M after the PS3 came out and the PS2 was affordable within 4 years. Not so with the PS3. Why would Sony drop the price when their system is still selling so well?
