TC, are you a fan of that genre?

I played DMC1 way back in the day and loved it. DMC2 was brutal and because of that I passed on 3 and 4.

DMC2 was...brutal?

Yea, I bought it and hated it.

DMC2 is considered the worst DMC game.

3 is ALOT better.

But I am a fan of action games of that sort and was thinking of picking this one up. Only thing is I'm working on my backlog and trying to knock out those games(unfinished swan, dust, borderlands 2, Mario Wii u) before Metal Gear Rising comes out because once MGR comes out, there's literally 7-8 great games releasing from that day through may(and a couple more I THINK are coming out like GTA5 and South Park). So if I don't get to DmC by then, it might be July before I can come up for air and find time to give it a shot.

Just when I thought I had a window, this Ni No Kuni game is releasing(game that flew under my radar and I realize I WANT that next week), and that will seal the deal on any chance of me finishing my backlog by mid February. Also, the Cave was sort of a surprise release next week as well(figured it would have been a Summer of Arcade game).

So after all this babble, I'm gonna be passing for now, but definitely interested in how people are receiving it for later in the year when I can get around to playing/buying it. Normally I would already have bought it and it would collect dust for months, but I'm trying to use some self control for once in my life and buy it for 29 bucks in a few months, rather than burning a full 60 like I usually do. I'm far from a cheapskate, but I'm on a mission to save 500k in the next 16 years(retiring at 49), so i have dough to bridge me to my pension. Saving 30 bucks a pop a dozen times a year is one of NINE easy things I can do in my budget to save an extra 5k a year on top of what I am already saving. I feel like a hardcore heeb though. Its not in my DNA to be like this, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna work a day past 50. I'm at the breaking point and I'm only 33.

Well I can't rally compare it to 2 because like I said I haven't played it. But if you are a fan of the genre I would call DmC a must-have.

The main complaints are that the gameplay is slower, not as deep, and the framerate is horrible, which are all true.

Now all this aside, even though the issues you pointed out are mild at best, you mean to say that the above justifies the immense amount of hatred it's gotten ever since it was first revealed?

No, I never said that. Only that it's not without its flaws. It's not just about "the hair" and the swearing, or whatever.

To the other response, my point still stands that it's a step down in terms of gameplay depth and speed. I also find the framerate nauseating. I agree that the combat is still satisfying and has depth, but the problem veterans have with it is that it's not quite as good as the older games in those departments.

I think that's a solid representation of the veteran's criticisms.
