They might send you a refurbished one. That's what they did for me a couple of years ago, new hard drive and everything. They didn't save or transfer anything from the old drive. You have to call them to see what their current policy is.
I have been looking into ways to fix this and so far i have nothing. i can't do the reballing thing myself. And apparently i cant use the hard drive in my PC to get saves off becuase its tied to the ps3 some how.
The only option i can think of it to have sony fix it. But is there any garentee they won't wipe my hard drive or just replace it?
Sony does not have you remove your own HDD like MS does. You send in the entire unit, and get one of the same models that was previously refurbished back.
Also, that's another big thing Sony screwed the consumer on. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to pull that HDD, and connect it to your PC to ghost it over or back it up, or whatever have you. Pure horse **** on their part.
You know, as much **** as Microsoft catches for that whole RRoD debacle (and deservedly so) it amazes me how Sony hasn't been sued into oblivion for shoveling defunct merchandise onto consumers considering the original phatty has a 100% YLoD failure rate due to its piss-poor engineering. I've replaced two personally.
