God I hate sonys stupid backup utility (help?)

#1wvnative03Posted 1/24/2013 6:01:41 AM
I don't have time to tell my entire story, that would take 5 posts, but basically I am well aware of the backup utility's limitations, but I thought when restoring to a different ps3, all my ps2/ps1 would at least be restored. I restored my new ps3 last night, but my ps1/ps2 saves did not return. Was I mistaken?

From Sony's knowledge centre:

The following copy-protected content will not be transferable:

Digital Right Management (DRM)
PlayStation® format software game data
PlayStation®2 format software game data
PlayStation®3 format software Game Save Data flagged as unexportable
Trophy data, trophy data is saved onto your Sony Entertainment Network account

So, yeah, PS2 and PS1 saves are not backed up via the utility.

Why do I even bother?

Yes you were mistaken.

Most things do not actually transfer over, despite what people tend to claim, because it is a new system. The backup is meant more for replacing your HDD, the transfer function is what they intended for a new console (yes, not very bright, but that's how it is)

The transfer function is pointless when the previous ps3 is unrepairable!

So you need two different functions for a complete backup. One of them requires a spare PS3.

That sounds like the Sony I know.

Losing all those old PS1 and PS2 saves may be something Sony intended to have happen, too. Anything and everything to kill customer loyalty.

That is exactly how I have felt this last year. I was 3 when I got my ps1, 6 when I got my ps2, I am 18 now, 15 years of game saves are gone because of this.

I literally shed tears last night when I opened the memory card utility to find there were no memory cards....

And by god I made every possible effort to repair the other one, i do mean EVERY effort! Alas, she was too far gone :'(

weird... I just replaced my HDD last month and all the PS1 save datas transferred to my new HDD without any issue.

I restored the data on the same PS3, new HDD.
