Fanservice. There has to be at least four attractive busty women between the ages 30-55 before I'll even look at a game.

This too, and they need to nake great use of the graphics

For me it's a balance between story and gameplay. The story can be mediocre as long as the gameplay's good and visa-versa.

Other than fighting games, story and characters are the most important factors for me. Fighting games are gameplay first, for sure, but if they have those other things, then awesome.

Gameplay, always! The only things that matter to me:

Gameplay
Music
Story (if it's an RPG. Otherwise, I don't care)
PSN- BlackRain8782
Now playing: Far Cry 3, Jak and Daxter, Mega Man X Collection, Yo! Noid, Batman Returns, Jaws"

Graphics. Not polygon count or detail level, but that it's aesthetically pleasing. A good looking game puts me in a good mood right from the get-go. The gameplay is obviously extremely important as well, but I mostly play JRPGs & action games and it's hard to mess that up.

This poll is a blatant lie. If Gameplay was the most important thing to people, they wouldn't stand for this bogus Health Regen standard, Checkpoints every two steps you take, cinematic set-pieces every three minutes, and totally linear layout that leaves no room for thought or options.

That's usually only in first-person games.
Also, while I understand your points about linearity and cinematic parts every several minutes, the other parts(regeneration and checkpoints) are there to reduce tedium.

There are only some game types that can be fine with lacking story as long as they have great gameplay, but for most games, you need a good story.
