I really wanted to play Ni No Kuni and didn't have a PS3, so I got one to play it, duh. I always wished I had one of the backwards compatible ones, so that's the one that I got, but after reading a random thread over on the Ni No Kuni boards, I'm worried about it dying.

It's an 80gb, ****ing GameStop refurbished console, with a CECHE01 MG serial

Is it true that these things are just time-bombs? I figured that since it's refurbished that it'd basically be brand new. I can still return it and get a slim with a larger HDD for a few days, if that's the case. Actually, now that I think about it, I even still have a PS2; I just thought it would be cool to have something backwards compatible, but I don't want to sacrifice a console's longevity for a feature I'll probably rarely use anyway (since a lot of the games I would play are on the PSN).

So, what do you guys recommend? Ditch the phatty and go with the skinny? I just don't want my ~$200 to be wasted within a year

You are better off with a Slim PS3 and a used PS2.I don't trust used phat PS3's.

Getting a used phat from gamestop is super sketchy.

You should be able to find a better deal for a slim. 160GB slims are only $180 in Canada right now.

Yeah, it has a warranty: 30 days free and paid 1 year. I've only ever had stuff break AFTER the warranty expires though lol

I think I'm just gonna return it for a slim; you guys are saying the same things that several other people over there were saying. I should have known better, although I do still have an original 360 that hasn't ever given me problems. Thanks for the help!

If anyone comes and visits this thread: How can you transfer saves from one PS3 to another without the use of Playstation Plus?

As an adult gamer (32 years old), I had just under 10 fat PS3s that all crapped out. Two of them I even sent back to Sony for a fix.

I still have 4 of those systems at home, non-functional.

I play many hours, so they couldn't hang.

My Slim 120g has been going strong since day 1. I am currently using my 320gig but the 120g is still in use.
