Games, RPGs in particular, would be a lot better with rap music

Anything is better than the music in JRPG's so I suppose I'd be ok with it. I always laugh like crazy when I see people talking about how good JRPG music is and that they put it in their MP3 players and listen to it more than regular music. Pretty awful taste that, IMO, makes them awful people.

This has to be a joke topic. But this isn't about whether rap is good music or not. It simply does not fit an RPG style game. It may fit sports games, or even a fighting game, but not RPG.

Think about how classical music invokes emotions in films like Lord of the Rings. Can you see Frodo climbing Mount Doom to Tupac? "Yo, Samewise G, let's put this ring in that b!tch's lava and slap some modo hoes! Feel me!?"

Yeah, no. See, it doesn't fit. This lesson holds true with RPGs, even in battle moments.

In fact, i didn't even like the final boss music in FFX (during the Jecht fight) which was hard rock. I do like hard rock like Disturbed, even SoaD, but it did not fit for that fight. Didn't even fit for the whole game. It was just silly. If it had been Rap, it would have been a joke, just like this topic.

yeah and no, rap belongs no where near rpgs, unless by rpg you mean rocket propelled grenade, then maybe, but rpgs usually have emotion, rap doesnt. Metal i whole heartedly agree with especially for fight scenes, considering metal is like anger and rage in musical form. Rap is simply get munny bang b!tches. Horrible.

People need to stop and realize not all rap is simply "get munny bang b!tches". Rap can have a message. Take for example: The Message by Grandmaster Flash, Black Boy by Tech N9ne, Where do we go by Talib Kweli, You Can't Hide You can't Run by Dilated People, Never Falling Down by Living Legends and I could still go on. Might go over your head though (the songs I isted aren't really explicit either).

Stop generalizing a whole genre by what you hear on the radio.

maybe if the bad songs weren't so popular, people wouldn't be able to generalize the genre.

Because we're totally not going through this type of argument with video games and the unfair judgement they generally get from non-gamers.

As opposed to drugs and homocide? Yeah, no, there's no negative messages in rap at all, ever. You've got a great point. Please, continue about how "rock" music is about drugs and suicide and rap is not at all about anything negative like that. You're obviously very educated on the subject and I'd like to hear more.

Starting a thread about rap music on any website will always result in s**tstorm. Thanks to the crappy mainstream rap that's prevalent right now, everyone has distorted view on hip hop. On to the topic, i personally wouldn't find rap music to be very fitting with a rpg especially if it a fantasy setting, it wouldn't set the right mood. (Edit) On second thought Persona did a great with infusing hip hop element with its soundtrack, so it could work depending on its setting.

You play these 2 things together and say they don't fit:

It worked well enough for Samurai Champloo though.

You guys are acting like they'd just take any top 20 chart rapper and throw his song into the game. Clearly, you'd need to find the right producers. Flying Lotus, Madlib, or Kenichiro Nishihara, for example, would be a perfect fit for Persona.
