That would never happen. Launch prices would actually be increased on purpose, as now they have your metaphorical balls gripped inside a metaphorical vice.

That would defeat the purpose of getting rid of used games (increased profit.)

but the argument for that would be that since they no longer have to compete against piracy or used games because of the intrusive DRM they could afford to lower the price.

edit: not to mention most games wholesale for $30

That'd be stupid, second hand games aren't even half price. The game's price wouldn't increase but the RRP would so shops could sell at an affordable rate with the loss of the second hand market.

That's how they sold everyone on No Fault Auto Insurance being required by Law.
Everyone would have it so prices would go down.
Didn't happen.The prices went up.

They could yes but why would they? Companies only lower their prices when faced with competition for the same product. No used games equal no competition.

This is as naive as when people believed the government that taxes would disappear after they were instated due to the war at the time. HA!

Have you not noticed that DD games prices do not go down generally, except on very rare occasions? They won't lower a damn thing if they can get away with it.

Well, sony seems to be testing launching games at $40.

If by some reason that did come true (not saying it will), I'd be all for it. But yeah, not gonna happen. They will most likely increase the price by like $5 or $10 to squeeze the paying customers as much as they can, and prices would stay high for as long as possible.

The used game market forces them to lower the price faster.

That's pretty much what's happening now. Good Old Games sells "new" games for less than the price of a lot of used games. New games at used game prices.

It's possible that's where GameStop is heading. The GameStop website now has downloadable PS3 games. I've no idea how that works.
