Updating games problem...

It could be a matter of interference. Most Wi-Fi routers operate on the 2.4GHz band, which can receive interference from microwaves, cordless phones, mobiles, older spec bluetooth devices, and a myriad of other devices.

Also, most people use 'Automatic' channel selection with their router, which almost always defaults to a crowded channel. Using a program such as inSSIDer to check your local area for a channel with little or no Wi-Fi traffic and setting your router to that channel is recommended.

Edit: Unfortunately, switching to the 5GHz Wi-Fi band is not an option in this case, as the PS3 can't receive 5GHz Wi-Fi signals.

You don't actually need to download anything, you can just go into command prompt and type "netsh wlan show all".

But I really doubt that'd be a cause of everything else working except updates.

Sometimes it can, if the download operation requires a consistent stable connection. I believe that is the case with the PS3. Since game updates do not permit background download (in other words, download management), it seems logical that an inconsistent connection would cause problems.

Since download management can account for an inconsistent connection, that explains why TC can perform other download operations without any problem. Considering TC does not mention not using background download for demos, PSN games, etc., it's safe to assume they do as it makes sense considering the size of most PSN downloads.

Edit: The netsh command you posted is only relevant for one OS, presumably Windows. Linux and Mac OS X would use different commands. inSSIDer provides Windows and Mac versions and an interface for the casual user.

Figured out a solution...had to go into acct mgt and go to system activation and select games and then reactivate the system and it worked. Thank you all for your suggestions.
