Story-wise: VI, VII, X, VIII, XI, V, XII, XIII, III
Music-wise: VII, VIII, X, VI, XII, V, XI, XIII, III
Best experience: all of them... can't choose lol >.> which is why i based off of battle/story/music
Haven't finished IV. Haven't played I, II, IX. Sad to see most people exclude XI, but I guess it's to be expected.
Note to my list though, most of them were close so the it's not always in order necessarily, some are tied. |

Admittedly, this is based on my personal enjoyment on each game, without taking into consideration things like historical context. In particularly, I kind of acknowledge FFIV was one of the most influential games in the series, but I played it quiet late, and I was turned off by its extreme linearity and its story hasn't held up. In contrast, despite its problems with its story, X-2 was just so much fun to play, leading me to put ti above the tedious FFIX
