Why does it feel like every game must be an RPG now, or else?

It feels like every game has to be an RPG now, or has some major RPG elements. Every game under the sun doesn't have to be an RPG. Some people like me actually do prefer linear games. Why I'm looking forward to Remember Me.

Remember Me is not trying to add some unneeded RPG stuff, but focus on an interesting story. Also the combat looks very fun.

Same reason why every game has a mp mode now. You can put more bullet points on the back of the box, and apparently that stuff sells.
