My girlfriend's ps3 YLOD'd and she doesn't want to lose her data, would I be able to put her HD in mine and get her saved data?

No. The PS3 automatically formats any hard drive you put in it, unless it was already in it. You have 3 choices to recover game saves if your system fails:

-Cloud storage for PS+ members
-External backups of game saves (unlocked ones only)
-You backed up your system to an external hard drive (I do this about once a month, having had 2 PS3s die so far. It restores everything.)

No. Putting it in a different unit will reformat it. You'd have to get her console working again.

You will have to get the PS3 working long enough to do a data transfer to your PS3.

Too late. I tried it, had to format it. And now it looks like I have to format mine also because it's not recognizing it,

As for the old PS3, it's long gone. :/
