Im a little skeptical about Ni No Kuni

It all depends on if you really like old school JRPG mechanics or not. NNK is a solid game with alot of charm and content, but you're not gonna miss out on any deep story or characters if that's the sort of thing you're mostly into.

Is there something beyond what im seeing?

Yes there is. However, I don't think you're capable of seeing them.

At least it makes sense story wise why you play as a kid.

Rather than the nauseatingly common "just because" jrpg cliche of being some world saving epic battle worn bad*** at the age of 17 because in the land of the rising sun evidently once you hit 25, you're an old man who needs a walker and meds.

And the plot uses the fact that he is a kid to great effect later on.

Maybe he's confident and accepts the fact that he likes little kids? I think the fans of this game pretty much have to be in order to live with themselves.

TC, I too shared these same feelings you have. I had almost completely written the game off because of it. But, I decided to give it a shot anyway. I can't believe what I almost missed out on! To be fair, I love old school JRPG type games. This game has me feeling those moments of pure joy that I haven't felt this whole gen. 85 hours in and can't wait to go through the game again. So much to do and everything is fleshed out. There are familiars that start to look less cutesy and almost all of them lose that quality by there last form. Trust me, give it a chance.

Unless "Nuh-uh!" is a valid argument, no it hasn't been.
