rofflchopper posted... From: doodles40 | #025Playing the newest CoD is like eating at a chain restaurant. It may not be spectacular but you know what you're going to get ahead of time. If you go to the diner down the road it could be great, could be terrible. Thanks :D
I'm guilty of one thing and that is buying games that I like. I liked COD4 so I bought MW2 I enjoyed that so I bought MW3. I didn't like Blops so I've not touched Blops2 instead I have continued to play MW3. Although samey I find the COD games to be enjoyable. This as with everything is all down to personal taste (COD would appear to be to a lot of people's taste). --- The cure for anything is salt water; sweat, tears, or the sea. I think the real reason people hate it is because it makes a ton of money which makes other companies and developers want to mimic that success and the easiest way to do that is to copy the Call of Duty formula. Yearly releases, multiplayer, etc. etc. For some games it works out and doesn't make the product worse. But for others copying the CoD formula just doesn't make sense. I think the fear of things from CoD creeping into their favorite franchises is what makes people have such a problem with it. --- I boosted some of my trophies. Please, judge me about it.

I mean yes theres a number of cod clones but theres just as many that are not. Hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of games out, ppl act like a handful of games is everything and a single series is ruining anything...its just ridiculous and Im a strong believer in these ppl are usually the ones that are completely unaware of so many game sout and only follow a miniscule amoutn of games to say somethng so silly, cause while in a few cases that may be the case in the biger scope of things its just not reality. I think the fact ppl here only talk about an extremely small % of games and I mean a minsicule amount, are usually only ever talked about around here proves that perfectly. For a console with over 1000 games its amazing how many at this board only talk about very very very few of them(usually only popular or hyped games) --- Real Hip Hop...I miss the 90's-Puppets Of Chaos - Tru Dat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqxBDN-cv08
gilv3r posted... So why not just play one game then and not buy anymore? My theory? Because if you play online, people probably are playing whatever the newest one is that's out there. I don't see many people buying Call of Duty for its offline mode - but then again, people say that about Halo when all I play is offline and co-op, and no deathmatch whatsoever, because I think the story's phenomenal. That's my take on it, though. Call of Duty, and a lot of those other similar games (NOT FPS games, just ones similar to Call of Duty) are set up way geared towards multiplayer deathmatch, to the point where the single player's probably more of a tutorial for playing online than trying to tell a compelling story, you know? Not knocking it, but Chromehounds (which was literally "offline mode is a tutorial for each role, online mode is the actual game") was set up like that.

I think the fear of things from CoD creeping into their favorite franchises is what makes people have such a problem with it. That's a good point. I guess what I mean by copy is incorporate elements of the franchise into games that really might not benefit from it. Multiplayer where it adds nothing to the game is a good example of this. Every game is doing it, they say to make sure people don't trade it in, but if your multiplayer sucks people aren't going to keep the game anyway. Yet we see tacked (or at least cookie-cutter) multiplayer all the time. These days if a game doesn't have MP it's a shock. It's almost as if these companies have a checklist of things that Call of Duty did to sell well and they try to add as much of it as possible to franchises that are already successful on their own so that they can have the next mega hit. And that's just one example. But I see what you're getting at. I think some people are just on a bandwagon but at the same time it's a little disheartening to think that in the near future the majority of games released could be so heavily influenced by CoD that they aren't even recognizable anymore. --- I boosted some of my trophies. With millions of dudebro's, rednecks, homies and kids who think all of the above are cool, you have a pretty sizable chunk of people all playing a game because their friends are rather than thinking and finding a game for themselves. That means big money. These people do not care about any of the issues you brought up and you know that. That's not why they continue to buy Call of Duty. 95% of these millions of people are not gamers, yet you're using examples as if they were. To be fair, I guess you could add to that some regular gamers who started playing FPS games with Halo or Call of Duty and thus don't realize how many steps backward the FPS genre has taken since CoD's rise in popularity. It's not unlike hearing someone's opinion on headsets. Since most people have never actually heard a pair of quality headphones, they actually think the complete **** they use good because they moved up from cheap SDTV speakers or Walmart earbuds. Now that the market is flooded with garbage headsets trying to cash-in on the emerging market, they think that their headset is actually the cream of the crop when it comes to sound quality and the standard/norm for modern headsets. --- I do benefits for all religions. The same people that slam CoD for releasing the "same" game every year are the ones complaining about games changing too much and not being faithful to the original games that their loyal fans love so much. Look at DmC, resident evil5/6, dead space 3,etc etc I agree with you. I wasn't complaining about dead space 3. I love the game. I was just using it as an example of what people are complaining about. --- PSN- Erupt50 XBL- Erupt50

While I understand the point that you're making, I really doubt that all of these people would buy and play the game JUST because their friends are playing it. That's a reason to try something out, sure but I doubt all of those people would continue to play it for months on end if they didn't actually like it. --- I boosted some of my trophies.
