people not getting the issue of banning used games

So I see all these topics now with people saying "what, can't afford to buy 60 dollar games?" and "big deal used games are only like 10 dollars cheaper"

This is not the issue. The issue is that once you buy the game, that games value becomes worth 0. So if you beat the game, didn't like, or grow bored of that game, you can't sell it on ebay or trade it in to buy more new games. Thats right, people sell their old games so they have the money to buy new games. If sony and/or microsoft do this locking game technology they are just shooting themselves in the foot.

Not to mention (As I've said several times), how this system this supposed system would work, it'd completely screws multiple console owners (such as my family) as well, forcing us into having to buy more than one copy of any single player game we'd be interested in purchasing >.>

There will be no used game blocks simply because Sony/Microsoft would be foolish to bite the hand that feeds them.

Right but used games don't feed them. The game publishers do, and when some dude from Epic/Konami/Capcom walks into your office and says "if you want some exclusives next gen or any of our games at all, you better disable used games this time around. " EA, Activision, Capcom, Konami, and Epic are all for the destruction of used games...that's quite a few powerhouses there.

I might be in the minority here, but being a gamer I usually research games before I buy them. There are videos, previews, play throughs of even the most deplorable games out there. I would also be willing to wager that demo's become mandatory next gen.

So do i.. But there are games i have played that i would have NEVER played if i didn't randomly pick it up for really cheap at a gamestop buy 2 get 1 sale.

Call of Duty 4 is probably the biggest success story for me. I bought it on a whim with 2 other 30 dollar games so i got 3, 30 dollar games for 60 bucks. I would have never bought it otherwise. I played the multiplayer and loved it. I did not buy W@W but i did buy a hardened Edition of MW2 - 99.99 and a Hardened Edition of MW3 - 99.99 and a regular copy of both Black ops 59.99 and 59.99.

So long story short i may have bought that first one used which they didnt see any money for. But they got over 300 bucks from be retail because of it (That they wouldnt have gotten) and thats not including any DLC i bought for those games which was all of it for MW2 and MW3.

The consumers feed them. And if you make people upset they will not buy your product and if they don't buy your product you don't get paid.

Gamestop whether or not you want to believe it also hugely contribute to the success of a game. Harming Gamestop and their business model makes them less likely to support your side. Say PS4 supported used games but the 720 didn't, which system do you think is gonna get the heavier promotion in all Gamestop stores?

I seriously think that what were dealing with here is kids who save up their money to buy games.

I'm an adult, I have a lot of disposable income, I pick up new games the same way I pick up a nice steak and groceries after work on a Tuesday.

Were dealing with primarily children's toy, whose biggest spender is not the child, but the parent.

You are not alone there mate, I do too. But then I also pick up some of the less then stella titles later on if they take my fancy.

What I do hope to see, if this BS becomes real... Is that every game they release should be a AAA title that is fully tested so we have no day1 patches and no extra DLC. Each game should be complete giving the consumer little reason to consider the resale value.

First of all it's 5 dollars less for used games at gamestop (often more then you can find new at other places for any game that isn't a new release)

Second all this talk is pointless since it isn't going to happen.

Third problem isn't used games problem is gamestop, gamestop screwed over the balance between used and new games and devs/publishers feel the need to take action (thus the locked/extra content and online passes that you can only get for free if you buy new), but nobody is insane enough to ban used games altogether the biggest issue isn't even the game, it's if you need to replace your console, and all the games that you bought new don't work on it.

Supporting the used games ban is madness. I can't believe this is an actual debate. Will it affect me? No. Is it wrong? Yes.

Waiting to hear whether or not this nonsense goes through. Might be heading to PC if so.
