Banning used games is a terrible idea

#1docholliday504Posted 2/9/2013 4:20:29 AM
If you take away the consumer's ability to share media, they'll just move on to another kind of media. Banning used games will destroy the console market within 2 generations. The only competitive edge consoles have over PC gaming are exclusives and the ability to share games. Take one of those away and more people just turn to their PC's or worse their phones. And then we'll all have nothing but Angry Birds to play by 2020.

Well said. Exactly my point sir.

Except no people will turn to there PC's because that all a Used game banned Console will be. A dumbed down PC that cant do any where near what a real PC can. and a PC isnt all that much more expensive then a console anymore.

People will not pay for a 600 dollar useless computer.

This makes little to no sense. People will turn to PC which already bans used games, and phones??? Which also ban used games. My god some people are dense. News flash, nothing will change. Because real gamers will go where the games are and games like CoD that still sell millions are only counting new purchases not used. If anything they will sell more because no one counts used games.

Heaven forbid consumers make an educated purchase or show restraint and wait for games to drop in price if they can't afford full price.

Used games being gone will only have positive effects for the Publisher Side in terms of revenue. Their complaints are justified in wanting to do away with used games but are they willing to risk the long term factor in all this ?

The Consumer experience will be shot to hell in all this. They'll essentially be rendering lots of experiences console gamers have over PC gamers moot. Things such as borrowing or sharing games with friends, Replacing Discs without purchasing new copies that may be too high in value or just plain hard to find, Hidden Gems Collecting, Limited Run Games, Ease of use, and lots of things past gamers have come to love.

no the point is... the console would be identical from a software standpoint to a PC. and if were forced into that model anyway. why not play on the PC where.. well its a PC and can do EVERYTHING a PC can do... and also not be limited to 30FPS.... and can mod games... and can back them up... without fear of being sued.

PCs do not Ban used games...Steam Bans them from the online features. You can still play them. The only company I know that disallows used games is origin but even DRM can be broken on PC. Consoles do not have this deal.
