Survival horror needs to come back

Dead Rising is a classic example of a survival horror game that shows us how desensitized we are of the whole zombie shoot out scenario and even makes light of the fact but it still checks every box in the genre.

The weapons and health are scarce and you are give the choice of fight or flight when encountering the zombies. It gives forces you to make tactical decisions whilst instilling an ever growing since of urgency in to you with the story's main plot line.

I agree that we need more games of this nature rather than the Run&Gun zombie shooters that we have today.

@that guy who mentioned fatal frame: Thanks dude, I've been looking for another PS2 game to play.

Not even close to a horror game. It's an action/beat em up with zombies.

Survival horror only exists for kids aged 10-15. Everyone over that age just view it as: terrible controls, stupid game design and/or action horror.

Come back?

It's still around and as niche as ever.

Problem is, the games spread across multiple systems and not just "1".

So that's why many feel they disappeared.

I could pose a list but it would fall on deaf ears for the most part as...

1.) If all the mechanics of the genre are there but it is in a different perspective (i.e. First Person) it's automatically not considered to be that genre by the collective "logic" of this board.

2.) It's on a platform a fanboy of one system or another doesn't own (thus being as natural an enemy as Jason and Freddy). The Wii and PC being highly visible scapegoats to the brand name angst ridden.

3.)" Ugh! Not zombies again! Or this and that. I want alien robo dimensional zombie turnips!". In other words creature "x" isn't scary so it doesn't count.

Lastly, as previous posts in this topic have shown, fans can't even really come together to define the genre so the rest of the points I posted don't matter anyways.

TL;DR

It never left. Get glasses TC, venture away from owning only 1 platform.

I think they need to make a survival horror game where you can only kill things with the environment and make it a platformer where you have to escape alot of the time. Kinda like those sections of prince of persia warrior within where you have to avoid that black thing, make that and exploration the core gameplay with puzzles being secondary.

If you want REAL survival horror and have a decent PC... Amnesia.

Now THAT'S horror.

Yeah but needs more realism.

Like they should show your arms grabbing and opening stuff at least for starters... I hate that floaty click **** first person games do out of laziness...

Eh, I think that's reasonable. I mostly just wanted to highlight that I thought the game was scary as hell. I'm not going to say it was perfect, by any means.
