I dont understand why people are against buying used

They've been around for a long time - that's just an incorrect perception caused by an inherent bias against Microsoft.

The industry will fix itself. People who only buy used will get the new consoles either way and just wait for cheaper prices (which will still happen). It doesn't matter if used games are blocked this coming gen or the one after, They're going to be blocked sooner than we think.

And maybe get sued for it, too. Europe legalized used digital games, and the Supreme Court ruled that copyright did not give companies the right to interfere with used products. Here's the link to the article about the Supreme Court ruling:

It's difficult to have any sort of serious conversation when this issue always devolves to the usual finger pointing. If one follows these topics, you would think that the only two type of gamers are corporate sycophants or entitled whiners.

I submit that those caricatures are the exceptions rather than the rule.

How so? It's essentially the same concept as the ethics argument against piracy, and that obviously isn't universally condoned.


Used games are perfectly legal. Piracy is illegal. The law is the codification of the ethics of society. It's ridiculous to conflate a legal activity with an illegal activity, especially one that can result in felony charges.

Laws =/= ethics.


It's as close to an objective ethical standard as you will get. If you rule out the law as an ethical standard, then everything is subjective and each individual person can define what is ethical and what is not.


That's exactly what people should be doing, trying to figure out what is ethical and actually discussing it with others to integrate other views into their perspective. Law should not be held as a high authority on ethics. People need to think for themselves and work together, not do what they're told.
