Velocity is insanely good for a Mini, and it only costs a few bucks! Don't let the Mini label turn you off. Developed for the PSP, the retro visuals aren't all that fancy, but the soundtrack and gameplay are phenomenal. It's a upward scrolling SHMUP at its core, but pulls from all kinds of genres. There's an awesome teleporting mechanic, many of the levels are laid out as puzzles, while others scroll faster, giving the game the feel of a rhythm game. Plus, its got all kinds of cool little extra unlockables. It's easy to pick up but hard to master, which makes it extremely addictive. Despite its small stature, it was one of my favorite games last year!
Sony took notice. The developer, FuturLab, signed a deal, and they're now working on Velocity Ultra. Visuals are getting a pretty nice overhaul, and trophy support is being added. The recently announced the inclusion of a platinum, after fans suggested it. So far it's going to be released for Vita, but I keep pushing them for cross buy whenever I can.
