Do I need to play God Of War Origins Collection?

Can I just play 1, 2, and 3? Do I need to play Origins to understand the story?

Not really.

Chains of Olympus came out after 2, but Ghost of Sparta came out after 3, so there's no absolute need to play them really. There's only one point at which God of War III references Chains of Olympus, but if you read the plot you should be good to go.

I just finished 2 and was wondering if I should just go ahead and play 3 or Chains Of Olympus.

If you enjoy the series, they are worth playing. But no, they aren't essential to understanding it or anything.

No, you don't need to play the games in Origins to understand the main GoW games.

For plot reasons no, they add stuff but the trilogy makes sense without them. FYI though chains of olympus happens before god of war 1 and ghost of sparta happens before god of war 2.

I found them both quite enjoyable games though and would definitely recommend them to any fan of the series.

They're not required, but they are worth your time. Ghost of Sparta is a top contender for my favorite of the franchise.

Kratos is an uncaring ass that gets pissed off at gods and kills them, even if they help him.

I suggest you look elsewhere if you want a game with a decent story.

All the games kind of feel the same. Just change the bosses and swap out the alternate weapons.

That's probably why I'm no going to get the newest game. Unless they are doing something radically different that I don't know about.
