Why don't digital downloads have their patches downloaded as well?

Wouldn't this make sense? There's nothing worse IMO than downloading a 10-16gb game, and after the install, it goes right back to installing another huge patch or two. Why don't they update the original download to include the patches? Is there some reason why they don't do it? Re-certification or some BS?

Because that would involve recoding the game to add the patch into the existing game. And unless the game sells like crazy, it's not monetarily feasible.

Oddly enough on PS Vita. When you download a game, it automatically adds the patches to the download que to.

It's just the PS3 that doesn't.

That's still having to download the patches separately, not as a part of the game download.
