Apparently the number 4 in Japanese is pronounced similarly to the word death and is considered unlucky in Japan.

From what I understand, the Japanese for "Four" and "Death" sound exactly the same- Shi. That's why it's an unlucky number.

However, they haven't called the Playstation 2 or 3 by whatever the Japanese for those numbers are over in Japan, they've just used the English words. Therefore, it will be Playstation "Four" and not Playstation "Shi".

Also, other Japanese games have used the number 4 :/
