The Zone of the Enders HD wasn't even that bad.

Lol at people exaggerating about how bad the port was.

ZoE1 runs fine. Nothing really wrong with that.

Now to ZoE2
The framerate wasn't bad at all. It seems that most people who says the framerate was bad probably never even played the game. it only occurs in 3 parts of the game. The first part at the snow part, the place before the final boss, and during VR missions. Does that make the game unplayable? No, all the other parts were exactly the same as the original version of the game. And people tend to forget that the original version had framerate issues too.

It's still a horrible port. A lazy cash-in that no one should buy. Buying s*** like that will only serve as an incentive for companies to produce more s*** like it.

In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow.

"Wasn't even that bad" shouldn't be the best thing there is to say about an HD collection. It should be better than the original. If there were any compromises that make it better on the ps2, it wasn't worth making in the first place, and certainly isn't worth buying.

It pretty much is at the same level as the original.

I agree with you, to an extent.

The issues are most certainly there. Across the board, not just "in a few levels". It isn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be though.

Someone who has never played the PS2 versions, or played them in passing, would not be able to tell that anything was wrong.
However, there were/are some seriously die-hard fans of these games that loved them specifically because they were the only mecha games out at the time that were so insanely fast-paced. For those people, being ridiculously excited about an HD remake only to purchase it and find out that the entirety of The 2nd Runner (the best of the two games) was 10-15% slower than the originals it is totally understandable why they were/are so upset.
I mean, the difference is glaringly obvious to a vet of the games and it takes away a lot of the challenge and appeal of the combat.

Example (first clip is PS2, second is PS3);
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOzxfeoXpc
You can clearly see the difference and, although it doesn't slow down to quite that extent elsewhere, it does happen all through the game. Specifically in boss battles and fights with many enemies. Which just happen to be two things people used to replay all the time. Especially large fights; pulling an entire map of enemies and fighting them all at once is crazy fun.

So yes, there are issues, without a doubt. They are meaningless and would not effect the experience of 90% of the people that would have/did pick this game up. But for the other 10%, being upset over it is understandable, although some went a bit overboard with their reactions.

Which means it's not worth it if it's at the same level as the original, might as well just buy the PS2 versions of both games.

It's not though. The ps2 version was by no means a constant 60fps, but it stayed pretty close to that most of the game.

The ps3 port typically hovers between 30-40, sometimes dipping down to 20. It barely ever reaches it's target of 60fps.

That's a Bayonetta-level bad port, which is to say it's perfectly playable, but you'd never, ever choose it over the other version.

except its possible that sales figures for the collection will determine the future of zoe 3.

Then they really should have handled it better or given it to a more competent team, or start fixing the issues really really fast, cause the sales figures aren't going to be very good if the HD collection is just "on par with the original versions."
